At dawn, after a dose of minty wind and warm sunny patches, she feeds her child. She offers it wax, paper, clay, water, fats and oils. It, the creature, takes it all, it smells it all, it absorbs it all through its skin and eyes and from under its fingernails, it lets it soak its veins. Intuitively it threads into its hair and lets it take control, it grows with insaciable hunger. Until it could stand by itself and surpassed her own size. Every second, its shape changes—fluid and uncertain, like her reflection trembling across water. She watches it, paralized and thrilled.
